Dr. Ram Bhagat has been offering Yoga Drum Dance™ with his wife (Mahalakshmi) and daughters (Kiran and Shanthi) at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, New York every summer since 2016. Dr. Ram inspires peace, love, and unity, through yoga, drumming, dance, community building and community healing circles. Dr. Ram is a gifted teacher, healer, and artist. Dr. Ram began studying and practicing yoga in 1975 during his undergraduate studies in Microbiology at Virginia State University with Dr. Janeshwar Upadyay. He started on the “drummer’s path” circa 1977, studying with an eclectic group of master percussionists from New Haven, New York, New Orleans, Cuba, and Brazil. Ram is a student of drum culture and world rhythms such as Samba, Rumba Guaguancó, Merengue, Mambo, HipHop, GoGo, Funk, Calypso, and Bomba. He is a certified Integral Yoga teacher, Kripalu Yoga in Schools leader, and Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga facilitator. Brother Ram is a co-conspirator with Holistic Life Foundation, the InnerWork Center, and Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation on “Breathing Love” into the greater Richmond community. Ram is also an avid practitioner of drumming for 108 Sun Salutations.
